Q: What does it mean "to pull a Charlie Gordon"? ( Flowers for Algernon)
A: I think that it's mean that Charlie is not a know-at-all kind of person (dumb). So they said it in an indirect way to say that he's dull and it's also a way to make fun of him with out letting him know what they meant by saying that someone pulled a Charlie Gordon. So the phrase " to pull a Charlie Gordon " is just an indirect way of saying Charlie Gordon is a dull person.
Example, when I want to tell somebody something without telling them directly but by asking questions and stuff, to lead them to the answer I want. It's an indirect speech.
You're right Athrun; it is indirect speech used to tell somebody something without telling them directly. However, they're also saying that someone is "dumb" like Charlie.
