First, the Japanese Americans feel angry, terrifying and exciting at some point. They fear of the Americans trying to harm them and their families. They feel exciting because it's the first time they get to see the camp and they will actually live there. After the journey, they adapted themselves to change quickly and feel sad because Camp Harmony is not really their home and that's where they will have to call home.

Expository Essay
Mixed Economy
The majority of economies on Earth is a combination of the government control and individual freedom. The United States of America is one of the most noticeable examples of a mixed economy in the world. Economics ranging from the U.S. to Cuba have been termed mixed economies. Mixed economy is an economy that includes a variety of private and government control, that is a mixture of capitalism and socialism and it is a major economy in the world. Mixed economy positively influences the citizens by giving people individual freedom along with government involvement which protects the people through public services.
There’s an advantage of having the government involved. The government protects its citizens through public services and provides a social safety net through ways such as Social Security and unemployment benefits. The government tests items before being marketed. For example, the USDA tests food before being marketed. Another example is the FDA; they must test and approve a drug or chemical before being marketed. The government also protects individuals’ rights in order for individuals to benefit from living together. There are many ways for the government to protect its citizens; it sets up laws because that’s its duty to stable the society. That’s one of the most important roles of the government. The government may run public services to help the citizens, like the postal service, rail lines, libraries, and in some cases, the health care service. The government in a mixed economy helps the citizens through public services and also protects them with laws.
In a mixed economy, individuals can help guide the economy not only through the choices they make as consumers but through the votes they cast for the official’s who shape economy policy. A mixed economy offers great freedom. These include the freedom to buy, to sell, to possess, and to hire. Mixed economic freedom allows for a higher standard of living and better work wages. The people in the market economy work hard but get paid with less salary. The head always wants to reduce the cost of products and the amount of money the head need to pay his or her employees. For example, employees in Vietnam get paid less than employees in the U.S. In the mixed economy, the head cannot force the people to work hard because they are protected by the government. Furthermore, if a candidate runs for a government position, he or she needs the votes from the citizens. He or she needs to encourage people that if he or she becomes a president, that person must give out policies to increase salary, health care systems, public services, etc. That will increase the standard of living in a mixed economy. For the wages that the citizens earn, the benefit of mixed economy is to use the best things of the market society. With the market side, people could earn high profit if they have right policies in business. Nonetheless, mixed economy also brings back higher unemployment rate because some people depend on the welfare system of the government. The freedoms in the economic activities are influenced by the government's regulation.
For a mixed economy to work well, it must have strong laws to protect the citizens from the greed of the market economy. From the story The Circuit by Francisco JimĂ©nez, “‘Here comes the school bus,’ Roberto whispered loudly in alarm. Instinctively, Roberto and I ran and hid in the vineyards.” In the market economy, people only make decisions for the profit gain. This is the capitalist side of a mixed economy; individuals could make their own profits. Roberto and Francisco in the quote above suppose to go to school. Instead, they skip school to go to work for more money. That encourages the government to be stronger to solve problems when the citizens are not obeyed the rules that the government makes to protect people. It is also a positive effect because if the citizens do this, they increase the profit a mixed economy earns a year by working more. Consequently, the market side of a mixed economy positively affects the people and engages them to work more for a higher benefit which stimulate the government to think of solutions when the citizens are not enforcing the policies. Besides, the citizens also help the economy to grow and earn more profits.
In brief, mixed economy gives the citizens freedom and protection from the government. Command economies negatively manipulate countries around the world by making unreasonable decisions. Market economies allow people to freely decide and enrich themselves. However, market economy could cause greed to people by making them want to work more to gain profits without any educational purpose. The relative strength or weakness of each component of economies around the world can vary greatly between countries. Mixed economy is the most effective economy because everything happening is evenly distributed into roles.

Literary Skill Question 7
Q.7: Do you think Terry made the right decision about questioning his father on his experience in Vietnam? Why and why not?
A: I think Terry made the right decision about asking his father about his experience in Vietnam. Then Terry got to know Vietnam more and he would realize that he learnt something from his father's story of the Vietnam War. Also, he made his father felt better after the conversation with Terry. In fact, he could get an "A+" on a Vietnam War exam if there's one at school that he studied about. Just maybe.

Caged Bird
Caged Bird
“I know why the caged bird sings; only joy and hopes, happiness and dreams would come from a song...”
***
“I’ll take one of these,” I said, walking toward the door with my little donut in my palms. It was a cold Saturday morning as I was taking a stroll in the Central Park. The trees, the lake, and the people in the morning, silence. The wind made the trees rustles, as if they were whispering to each other, gossiping about the people in the park. Everything was covered in snow, it was all white. Several of the brown sparrows flew up to the sky and disturbed the silence for awhile and they were gone. The sky was completely white…
“Billy, are you ready for school?” my aunt, Sarah yelled from the dining room. “Coming,” I murmured to myself, rustling packed up everything into my small bag. “You’re 13 already, be more independent,” she did it again. I ran as fast as I could to my aunt then Aunt Sarah and I walked down the stairs and headed my school. My parents had divorced for almost 2 years already. I started to live with my aunt after the incident happened. We live a small apartment near the Central Park, New York, owned by Mr. Gary Jones. He’s a gentleman. I think my aunt had a crush on him, big one. Every week, he brought me a book to read and my aunt a few coupons. I don’t really know why but I think that’s how he expressed himself a gentleman. That was what my Aunt Sarah really cared.
I’m a sorrow guy at school; I didn’t have a friend to talk to. Everywhere I go, I seemed like I was invisible, and no one cares if I even exist. Lunchtime is the worst and always would be the worst moment of a day. At lunch, I spent most of my time sitting at the corner enjoying my little middle day snack and reading books. Sometimes, I day dreamed about me being a different person, the one who’s not me for who I am, the kind of person who always bring himself happiness.
One afternoon, like every regular day I had, wearing my coat and was taking a stroll through the park, that’s the least I could do every afternoon. Not like other kids who had their parents to play with them, spending time together and smiling. Through my smile, I cried. There was nothing left I could do. “Is that?” I thought to myself for awhile then started to walk toward it. “A sparrow,” a sparrow was lying on the couch, “it’s dead,” I thought to myself then gently held her up. I knew right away it was a female by looking at its beak. If a sparrow has black spots on its beak, it’s probably a male. My mind was in between nowhere. Then I was comforted by her soft feather, it was lighter than I even thought it would be. Happily, I ran home to tell my aunt how surprisingly I was to find a poor sparrow in the park who wouldn’t have survived throughout the winter.
“Aunt Sarah, Aunt Sar..rah...” I panted and panted as I was calling my aunt then I stopped. Then I calmed myself, “look at what I’ve found today in the park,” showing the sparrow in my hands, my arms were straighten out. My aunt just gave it a smile then she said, “Billy, my dear,” she squatted and looked at me, “what are you going to do with the sparrow?” She glanced at me then the small bird. “I...I..I think I’m just going to give it a home to stay in.” Then she nodded with a satisfied look then walked toward the kitchen. I didn’t say anything and ran to my little room. “From now on, I’ll have works to do on my own,” I whispered to myself like it was to someone else. “I feed her and take care of her until she’s completely rehabilitate,” I gave my words.
I found this as a new hobby and I enjoyed it a lot. I always wondered if she’s happy or not. I felt like I’m a sparrow that was caged without a key. My feelings were keeping me back from flying. And now, to myself, I know why the caged bird sings. Only joy and hopes, happiness and dreams would come from a song. “Why not just set her free...?” I spoke without knowing I was talking to myself.
School, my grades were dropping. I started to lose track of time and weren’t paying any attention to the teacher in class. Instead, I looked outside the window and wandering somewhere over the clouds, somewhere which doesn’t even exist. Somewhere, there was there only me.
School was over, I ran as fast as I could home to see my only pal, the only friend I had. It was gone. Disappeared, she wasn’t there waiting for me after school anymore. Waiting for a conversation about how was my day. And now, she flew away from my hands like evaporating into the thin air. I roughly ran to my aunt and asked,
“Aunt Sarah, where’s she?”
“Who are you talking about? What her?”
“The sparrow,”
“The sparrow,” she smiled and looked at me with her innocent eyes, “I set her free”
“But..but... why? Why did you do that?”
“Billy...” she hugged me “You know what Billy?”
“Yeah?? Yes Aunt Sarah...” I sighed
“When you love someone or something, you should let them be.” She stood up and smiled in a gentle glint.
I didn’t reply back but looking at the floor. I nearly cried. Tears came out from the edge of my eyes unexpectedly. Then I just ran to my room as I fast as I could. Jumped and dug my head into my pillow. I feel asleep.
For months, I figured it out myself. I was luckier than that bird. The one was caged by me and I wasn’t caged. I felt happy because once again, the world made sense. I joined some school activities now. Being in a soccer team was fun too, instead of joining games at lunch and waited for someone to pick me last. I felt happy again. I hadn’t had this feeling for a really long time ago and I wondered when it was.
One evening, I received a letter from an anonymous girl. Her name was Margaret and...
Dear Billy,

I could fly now; nothing could stop me from flying to the endless sky. Spread my wings and fly away, become a free little sparrow and be free. I have a friend...

Caged Bird -- rough draft
“I’ll take one of these,” I said, I’m Billy, a 13-year-old boy, walking toward the door with my little donut in my palms. It was a cold Saturday morning as I was taking a stroll in the Central Park. The trees, the lake, and the people in the morning, silence. The wind made the trees rustles like they whispering to each other, gossiping about the people in the park. Everything was covered by snow, it was all white. Several of the brown sparrows flew up to the sky and disturbed the silence for awhile. The sky was white…
My parents had divorced for a year. I was living with my aunt, Sarah, in a small apartment near the park. The apartment that I lived in is an old building owned by this man, Mr. Gary. He’s a very nice guy and he’s lonely. He likes to read books like I am. His personality is what my aunt prefers in a gentleman. He’s very kind to me and my aunt. Every weekend he brought me a book and my aunt a coupon. He thinks that’s how he expresses himself as a nice man.
At school, I was lonely; I didn’t have a friend to talk to. Everywhere I walked, I seemed like I’m invisible. No one cares if I even exist or not. Lunchtime, I spent most of the time sitting at the corner reading a book or think to myself about what will I do to my life.
One afternoon, wearing me coats and was walking in the park. That’s my favorite thing to do besides reading. I saw a poor bird lying on couch in the park. I gently held it up in my hands. It soft feather comforted me. I happily ran home to tell my aunt about what I’d found in the park.
After my aunt’s agreement to take care of the bird, I bought it a small cage for the little poor sparrow to settle in. Every day, I brought it food and drink. I found this as my new hobby and enjoyed it a lot. I wondered if the bird is happy or not. I felt uncomfortable deep inside me, it was like a prison for a small innocent sparrow.
I started to wonder about flying and being like a bird. I could feel the wind blowing through my skin. How does it feel to be flying up into the endless sky, you would be invincible. After school, I went back home to see the only friend, the little sparrow and it was gone. I roughly ran to my aunt and asked. She said that if you love something very much, you should let it be. In my mind, I felt like I have lost a piece of me. Am I free from this world? Can I do whatever I want to?
For weeks after, I found myself freedom and happiness. I’m not locked in a cage and I’m happy about it. My aunt was right after all, I should let it fly away to its parents and live a happy life.
I joined some school activities now. I was happy about it. One evening, I received a letter from a girl which I don’t know in my school. Her name is Margaret, her parents just divorced and she needed my advice to be a happier person like I am now. She asked if I could become her friend and I said it would be fun for both of us. I have a friend now…

Writing Focus
Hey everyone, in this small paragraph here, I’ll describe my best friend, John. He’s a very nice person to interact with. When you talk to him, he’s a very good listener. He’s really good in sport and math, which was my point of view. He’s energetic in everything and a very funny person. He like to tell people that’s he’s handsome. When he smiles, his mouth is widened and his face will be red. Every day, during lunchtime, he always plays sport. In my opinion, he’s going to be an athletic in the future. John is always positive, he’s never being sad. He shows clearly positive mental attitude at school every day. I think he’s a very nice person to be friend with.
